A community college is a type of non-formal institution for skill development. This is similar to American Technical Further Education colleges (TAFE) or UK's Further Education (FE). This helps students who have dropped out of schools, higher secondary schools specifically for the under privileged and marginalized youth of the country to come into main stream and earn for a living.
Community Colleges can conduct courses from 6 months to 1 year within which the student has to attend classes, pass the examination and obtain certificates within a tenure of 24 months. The provisions are kept liberal as the students from underprivileged background may not be able to pay their fees on time, or work for a living along with studying. For example; a 6 months course can be completed within a timeframe of 24 months together or in separate portions.
Bharat Sevak Samaj Community College offers various skill-oriented and non-formal courses that can generally be completed within six months to one year. Under the long-standing norms of Community colleges across the globe, students are permitted to collect their certificates within two years from the date of admission. Students may enroll in community skill certificate courses through BSS-affiliated institutions across India. Depending upon the nature of the programme, students may attend online or physical classes and appear for examinations conducted by the respective institutions either physically or online. Upon completion of examinations and evaluation, the affiliated institution forwards the assessment of students to BSS for issuance of certificates. In this Community college system, the Institution is solely responsible for the student registration, evaluation and assessment preparation.
